A dominant, often shortened to Dom for men and Domme for women, is the partner who takes charge in a consensual power exchange. The dominant directs the play or the dynamic, but always within the limits agreed during negotiation and bounded by the submissive partner safeword. Being a good dominant is about responsibility and care, not just control: it means understanding limits, reading your partner and providing aftercare. Dominance is a role taken on by consent, not a licence to do anything.
