This policy explains what personal data Venuva collects, why, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights. We take privacy seriously, and in this sector we know discretion matters more than most. Please read this alongside our Terms of Service.
Venuva (venuva.co.uk) is operated by Masuyo Digital (trading as Venuva), based in the United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK data protection law, we are the data controller for the personal data described here. Our ICO registration number is [ICO REGISTRATION NUMBER].
Contact us about privacy at hello@venuva.co.uk.
When you create an account we collect your email address, a password (stored securely and never in plain text), and any name or business name you choose to give. If you set a public display name for reviews, we store that too.
If you submit or claim a venue, event or company, we collect the information you provide about that business, including contact details, descriptions, images, and, when you claim, the role and evidence you give us to verify the claim.
If you leave a review, we collect the rating, the text, the tags you select, and your chosen public display name. Reviews are shown publicly under the display name only, never under your real name or email.
If you subscribe to Pro, payment is handled by our payment provider, GoCardless. We do not see or store your full bank details. GoCardless processes your Direct Debit and shares with us only the information we need to manage your subscription (such as confirmation of payment and mandate status). GoCardless is the data controller for the payment information it processes; see their privacy policy for details.
We use a privacy-focused, self-hosted analytics tool (Umami) to understand how the site is used, such as which pages are visited and general traffic patterns. This is configured to avoid collecting personal data and does not use invasive third-party tracking cookies.
Like most websites, our systems automatically receive certain technical data when you visit, such as your IP address and browser type, as part of delivering and securing the site.
We use your data to:
Under UK data protection law we rely on:
If we send marketing emails, we will do so in line with the law, and every marketing email will include a way to unsubscribe. You can opt out at any time. Service emails that are necessary to operate your account or listing are not marketing and will still be sent.
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with:
Public information you choose to publish (your listing details, and your reviews under your display name) is, by its nature, visible to the public.
Our database is hosted in the European Union (EU West). Some of our service providers may process data outside the UK or EU. Where they do, we take steps to ensure your data is protected by appropriate safeguards as required by law.
We keep personal data for as long as you have an account or listing with us, and for as long as needed for the purposes described here or to meet legal obligations. When you close your account, we remove or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we need to keep some of it for legal, accounting or safety reasons. Content you published, such as reviews, may be removed or anonymised when you delete your account.
We use only the cookies necessary to operate the site, such as keeping you signed in. Our analytics are designed to work without invasive tracking cookies. If we ever introduce non-essential cookies, we will ask for your consent first.
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
To exercise any of these, contact hello@venuva.co.uk. We will respond within the time the law allows.
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including secure hosting, encryption of passwords, access controls, and row-level security on our database. No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
We understand that being associated with this sector is sensitive. We design the site to protect you: reviews appear under a display name, never your real identity; link previews are kept discreet; and we never publish your email address. Please also take your own care over what you choose to make public.
The site is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has used the site, contact us immediately at hello@venuva.co.uk.
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always on this page, with the date it was last updated. Where changes are significant, we will take reasonable steps to bring them to your attention.
