Protocol is the set of agreed behaviours and rituals that structure a D/s dynamic, from how a submissive addresses their dominant to formal ways of moving, speaking or serving. It ranges from low protocol, light and largely invisible to outsiders, to high protocol, which is detailed and ceremonial, sometimes reserved for special occasions or events. Protocol gives a dynamic shape and meaning, and like everything else it is negotiated and tailored to the people involved.
