A handler is the person who guides and cares for a partner in pet play, particularly pup play. The handler directs, trains, plays with and looks after the pet, taking a role somewhere between a dominant and a caregiver depending on the pairing. The relationship can be playful and social or part of a deeper dynamic. A good handler reads their pet, respects limits and provides the structure and affection the role thrives on.
